Overview
We recently completed a barn demolition project in Ipstones for a local farmer, preparing the site for future use.
The structure was a timber framed barn with asbestos roofing and cladding, which required careful planning and a controlled approach before any demolition work could begin.
The Challenge
The presence of asbestos meant the project needed to be handled in a specific sequence to ensure everything was carried out safely and in line with regulations.
At the same time, the customer had clear instructions on what should be retained and what should be removed.
This required a selective demolition approach rather than a full clearance.
The Work Carried Out
Our team completed the demolition over a couple of days, starting with the safe removal of hazardous materials.
This included:
• Removing and disposing of asbestos roofing and cladding
• Dismantling the timber frame of the barn
• Excavating and removing structural posts from the ground
• Clearing waste and debris from site
Once the hazardous materials were dealt with, the remaining structure was dismantled in a controlled and efficient way.
A Controlled Demolition Approach
This project was not a full removal.
At the customer’s request:
• Metal posts were left in place
• The timber frame was retained for reuse
Working in this way allowed the client to keep materials they needed, while still achieving the required site clearance.
Programme
The full demolition and clearance was completed within a couple of days.
Efficient planning and sequencing meant the job was completed quickly while maintaining safety and compliance throughout.
The Outcome
With the barn safely dismantled and asbestos removed, the site is now clear and ready for its next use.
By handling the hazardous materials first and following a structured demolition process, the project was completed without delays or complications.
